As of 1930, there was a new good reason to move up and out to Albuquerque’s University Heights.

The ad notes, “When you live in Monte Vista the smaller children can go to school without crossing a single busy street, and within a few blocks of home.” What was a good selling point in 1930 is a great selling point today.

Proximity to Monte Vista Elementary continues to be highly desired by many families with youngsters today. In addition to location, MVES is notable today as one of the very few Albuquerque Public Schools not entirely encircled in cyclone fence. Neighbors and just plain folks can still walk up from Campus NE or Monte Vista NE through its large front yard right up to the front doors. Hopefully, this freedom of access continues and I’m sure the story of how school folks and neighbors have fought to stay unfenced is an interesting one.
The 1930 ad anticipates that “this school will be a credit to Albuquerque.” There might not be that much truth in advertising, but the ad copy folks at developer Wm. J. Leverett’s office got it right on this one. Definitely one of the absolutely Better parts of Burque, Monte Vista Elementary.
Interesting. I grew up in Albuquerque, but wasn’t aware of beautiful Monte Vista Elementary. Also interesting that the homes are advertised by how many total rooms, not bedrooms, not bathrooms.
