Greater ABQ Active Transpo Committee Meets This Afternoon

If you have an interest in local transportation, or just like reliving the good ‘ol days of Covid Zoom meetings, GAATC (see post headline for what the heck that stands for) has its December meeting today from 4:00 to 6:00 at this very impersonal “room” on the Internet.

The meat of today’s scant agenda is the following:

Not the most scintillating topics, given that there was a public meeting on the S-Curve last week and that Better Burque has already provided all the information one could ever need about it, along with the fact that 99% of cyclists already use Idaho Stops and drivers pissed off about their use won’t stop being pissed off just because it’s legal.

Nevertheless, this and all GAATC meetings are a chance to hear, perchance to personally opine, on transportation, all from the cozy confines of your Zoom cave. Why GAATC is still 100% Zoom and not at least hybrid by this point in 2024 is a mystery that I will answer via a totally made up reason.

They’re on Zoom because it’s too dangerous to walk or ride to the meetings. “Active Transportation” means no transportation until people stop dying while attempting to be active. It’s a protest.

I started this post genuinely intending to urge your attendance at this meeting as a way of participating in our democracy and staying informed about transportation issues you care about. I see now that I have done a very poor job regarding this intention. Don’t let my inadequacy stop you from firing up the Zoom box and “heading” to today’s meeting. For one thing, your attendance will make me feel less idiotic for my own attendance.

Thanks in advance for making me feel less idiotic.
