The pandemic isn’t over, but dying on New Mexico roadways is very much “back to normal.” With a vengeance.

In fact, the 351 deaths through September (October numbers should be out in about a week) put us on pace to get back to pre-Great Recession highway death figures. Or worse.
Same grim records also being challenged in terms of pedestrian deaths.

Back-to-back double-digit deaths and three months of 2021 left. Yeah, people are back to driving and dying the old-fashioned way. We don’t seem to be handling the transportation pandemic any better than the viral one.
