The Great Bosque Path at its Greatest

Some of us, particularly those of us sharing a generally misanthropic outlook, tend to denigrate the Albuquerque Bosque Path (and its many varied names such as “Riverside Trail”) due to its popularity. “We” say/think things like: “I don’t like the Path because it’s so great that too many other people use it.”

Dummies us, because that means we’re resultingly not on this great path enough. A weird form of misanthropic spite. Yesterday, the Path and the entire Bosque had that perfect mid-Fall mix of Autumn leaves on the trees and on the ground.

It’s great, but not optimal to have the ratio of Fall leaves something other than 50/50 trees to ground. I We love the Fall Colors earlier in Autumn, with all the leaves still on the trees. We also greatly like the close-to-Winter 100% ground/0% trees state of things. But 50/50 is the best. Yesterday was the best.

“We” are picky that way, always tending to separate really good, great, and best when we’d be better off just enjoying it all. This is true, at least for me some of us when it comes to *Autumn Leaves, and so, so, soooooooooooooooooo many other topics/things. There’s also that further tendency for humans to extend the “best” pickiness to asserting that all other really good and great things “suck.” E.g., “Bosque Path is the best and North Diversion Channel Trail sucks because it’s not as good as the Bosque Path.”

It is due to this human tendency to extend everything into “best/suck” that I, and I mean “I” most assuredly here, harbor a general misanthropy. But I digress. Yesterday’s leaf position ratio was the best, even away from the Bosque.

Enjoy the best, everyone, as well as the really good and great.

*This is my favorite “best” version of “Autumn Leaves” because it is better than all the other really good and great versions out there. That doesn’t mean any/all of the other versions “suck.”

  1. At peak times in certain stretches the asphalt MUP is quite peopley and less speed-friendly but that’s a minor complaint, and proof of the immense value of the Bosque for everyone. Thank you for the reminder, and the wonderful photos!
